I had a math teacher once that had a very good answer to the "we'll never need to use this in real life" argument.
He said, "Perhaps not, but you will need to use your BRAIN which is exercised and kept healthy by learning new, different and even complicated things...especially things you 'don't like' or think are too difficult to understand. SO THERE!"
