Why things from a few months ago show up in my feedreader just now is a mystery to me but this post from 800-CEO-Read book excerpt blog just popped up recently. The excerpt is from a book called "Mind your X's and Y's" and talks about a college that used a comic book series highlighting the college career of a high-school athlete the college wanted to recruit.
The excerpt says the strategy plays on the need of Gen X/Y to be famous. I posted a while back on the new celebrity culture and leveraging that as a recognition element. I think this strategy would work just as well in the business world.
What if as part of the program communications a "clipping" from the company newsletter highlighted the awards ceremony and the recipient's accomplishments? What if you sent a photo of a cutout holding an award with the tag line - your picture here? In other words, help the participant visualize their success now creating a picture of the success in their minds. This should increase their desire as well as their effort. This also ties into the "pseudo-endowment" effect I posted on here.
The technology exists to do this somewhat easily. Let's all get famous!
