I’ve received feedback that I should spend some effort on the “basics” of incentive and performance improvement to provide a baseline for other discussions. I must admit as I reviewed my posts over the past few months only 10% of my time has been spent on the 90% of what we do as an industry. Therefore, I will be creating a new category called “Incentive 101” where I will focus discussions on the meat & potatoes of the industry. I will try to put at least 20% of my effort into the current state and less on what I see as the issues to address in the future.
As a way of deflecting the criticism and rationalizing my previous posts (I hate to be wrong) I will say that one of the primary goals of starting this blog was to move the needle of intelligence in this industry and if I remember my high-school physics it takes more effort to counter existing inertia than it takes to keep an object moving in the same direction - and therefore I have consciously put more energy into the direction I’d like to see things go rather than direction it is currently moving. And selfishly – if it wasn’t somewhat controversial and counterintuitive it wouldn’t be interesting to anyone (including me.)
Stay tuned.
